Southern Cross Assurance Limited proudly celebrated Papua New Guinea’s 50 years of independence under our theme ‘Connection, Culture and Community’. We were honored to be joined by two young prominent Papua New Guineans, former Queensland Reds player, Aidan Toua and the CEO of Transparency International Ms. Arianne Kassman as part of our program, to share invaluable experience and stories of resilience and change. The program finished off with a meaningful reflection session afterwards hosted by professional development coach, Mr. Eddie Aila, of Eddie Aila Coaching – EAC.

It was a fun-filled day of celebrating our diverse cultures as our staff performed cultural dances, a meaningful panel discussion and finished off with a session of reflection of our country’s journey so far and aspirations for the next 50 years.

Mr. Toua shared experiences in his rugby career specifically dealing with injuries, and transitioning from his professional rugby career to a corporate job and moving his family back home to PNG to connect them with his roots. After moving back, he has realigned his passion for rugby union by working closely with Capital Rugby Union (CRU) to establish talent development pathways for local talent.

Ms. Kassman shared her experience of being appointed to lead Transparency International PNG at a young age and her approach to overcome the challenges that she has faced in her leadership journey. Arianne’s message was one of courage to speak up, courage to do the right thing and being passionate about the work that she does.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Arianne, Aidan and Eddie for making time available to be part of our special program. Here is to safeguarding PNG for the next 50 years and beyond!
