The 2026 SCAL National Amateur Golf Championship finished off with Soti Dinki (Gross 286) claiming the men’s championship title, while Margaret Lavaki (Gross 319) claimed the championship title in the Women’s Division. Congratulations to you both for taking home the National Amateur Championship title for 2026!

SCAL Chairman Mr Roxon Undi, in his remarks, expressed his appreciation to the PNG Golf Association, the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club and the players for displaying an exceptional 4 days of competitive golf. Mr Undi also announced that SCAL will proudly sponsor the National Amateur Golf Championship for the next 3 years!

Southern Cross Assurance Ltd (SCAL) is excited to announce the renewal of its Naming Rights Sponsorship of the National Amateur Golf Championship! After a successful Championship hosted by the Lae Golf Club in Lae last year, SCAL has come on board yet again with a K20,000 sponsorship to support homegrown talent in the game of Golf.  The 2026 Southern Cross Assurance National Amateur Championship will be held at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club from the 3^rd to the 6^th of April.

Last year’s Championship saw Gideon Tikili take out the Men’s Division title while Natalie Mok bagged the Women’s Division title as they competed among 118 participants. This year’s tournament is expected to host more than 120 elite amateur golfers as they compete for the title.

This year’s sponsorship reaffirms SCAL’s commitment to providing pathways and avenues toward developing local talent, as SCAL is a proudly locally owned general insurance company. As a locally owned company, we are committed to nurturing such initiatives that drive positive yet lasting impacts on our local communities.

SCAL is happy to support the Public Servants Netball Association with a sponsorship in both cash and kind for the PSNA Awards Night. Today, at the Rita Flynn Netball Courts, SCAL representatives presented a cheque of K3,000 along with merchandise to PSNA. During the presentation, PSNA President Mary Nauga thanked SCAL for the timely support.

SCAL supports other sport teams and competitions in cricket, golf, darts and has now extended its support in to netball. SCAL is proud to support activities that promote wellness and social networking.

SCAL is proud to be supporting the 2025 PNG Open with a sponsorship of K30,000 presented to PNG Golf Association (PNGGA). Earlier this year, SCAL was the Naming Rights Sponsor of the National Amateurs Golf Championship hosted in Lae. SCAL is proud to continue its support for Golf in PNG.

PNGGA President Ian Hodge said that “this year’s PNG Open will be a historic event in PNGGA history as the new ladies category will be introduced where we will have 7 professional ladies coming from Australia to play against our 8 best ladies from Papua New Guinea. The purpose of this new introduction is to promote gender inclusion to show that everyone can play in one field as one.”

This tournament will have 120 professionals taking part vying for the win. There will be players coming from America, Spain, Fiji, China, Korea as well as the Philippines with 7 of those players having ratings of the next ‘big golfers in the world’ Hodge added.

Hodge thanked SCAL for their continuous support to the growth of golf in PNG over the years. “SCAL’s continuous support, along with the other sponsors, will go a long way towards creating pathways of development for our junior players and we envision that supporting our junior players development will allow us to deliver a world class standard PNG Open event” said Hodge.

Southern Cross Assurance Limited (SCAL) is excited to announce that we have been given the honor to be the Naming Rights Sponsor to this year’s PNG National Amateur Golf Championships which will be hosted by the Lae Golf Club from the 18^th to the 21^st of April.

The National Amateur Golf Championship is a PNG Golf Association (PNGGA) sanctioned tournament. Each year this annual tournament attracts about total 150 golfers from around Papua New Guinea looking to secure qualification and selection to represent PNG in other major PGA events, such as the PNG Open, and other regional PGA tournaments overseas such as the Asia Pacific Junior Golf Championship, and also the Pacific Games and Mini Pacific Games.

PNG Golf Association President, Ian Hodge said, “I would like to sincerely thank Southern Cross Assurance Limited for coming on board as the naming rights sponsor. Our main aim at this time is to generate enough funds to increase our junior kids’ participation and provide them the opportunity to compete at the national stage.”
