The 2026 SCAL National Amateur Golf Championship finished off with Soti Dinki (Gross 286) claiming the men’s championship title, while Margaret Lavaki (Gross 319) claimed the championship title in the Women’s Division. 
Congratulations to you both for taking home the National Amateur Championship title for 2026!
SCAL Chairman Mr Roxon Undi, in his remarks, expressed his appreciation to the PNG Golf Association, the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club and the players for displaying an exceptional 4 days of competitive golf. Mr Undi also announced that SCAL will proudly sponsor the National Amateur Golf Championship for the next 3 years!
Congratulations to all 166 players and we hope to see you again next year in Mt. Hagen!

The Board and Management of Southern Cross Assurance Limited (SCAL) are delighted to partner with the Papua New Guinea Nurses Association (PNGNA) with a comprehensive medical cover that will benefit over 4,000 of its members and their dependents.
Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system. They play a vital role in providing compassionate care, educating communities to prevent the spread of illnesses, and treating the sick, often while working in highly stressful environments to support doctors and other hospital staff.
Our wonderful PNG nurses work hard and tirelessly to care for others; therefore, it is important to provide a way to ensure their medical care needs are supported too. “It is our honour to now be able to support our PNG nurses, in return for their tireless dedication towards caring for others” said Srirangan Kalyanarangan, CEO of SCAL.
SCAL believes that providing this medical insurance is a major step towards improving their employment benefits. SCAL hopes to give the registered nurses and their families a greater peace of mind by providing a way to ease the burden of their own medical expenses.
“All I want is for my nurses to be well looked after, and I want to thank SCAL for accepting our terms and conditions to tailor their medical insurance policy according to our requirements”, said PNGNA President Frederick Kebai.
The medical insurance policy covers a wide variety of services, including treatment for acute illnesses, pregnancy, dental and optical care, and also includes emergency medical evacuations.

Southern Cross Assurance Ltd (SCAL) is excited to announce the renewal of its Naming Rights Sponsorship of the National Amateur Golf Championship! After a successful Championship hosted by the Lae Golf Club in Lae last year, SCAL has come on board yet again with a K20,000 sponsorship to support homegrown talent in the game of Golf. The 2026 Southern Cross Assurance National Amateur Championship will be held at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club from the 3rd to the 6th of April.
Last year’s Championship saw Gideon Tikili take out the Men’s Division title while Natalie Mok bagged the Women’s Division title as they competed among 118 participants. This year’s tournament is expected to host more than 120 elite amateur golfers as they compete for the title.
This year’s sponsorship reaffirms SCAL’s commitment to providing pathways and avenues toward developing local talent, as SCAL is a proudly locally owned general insurance company. As a locally owned company, we are committed to nurturing such initiatives that drive positive yet lasting impacts on our local communities.
SCAL is happy to support the Public Servants Netball Association with a sponsorship in both cash and kind for the PSNA Awards Night. Today, at the Rita Flynn Netball Courts, SCAL representatives presented a cheque of K3,000 along with merchandise to PSNA. During the presentation, PSNA President Mary Nauga thanked SCAL for the timely support.
SCAL supports other sport teams and competitions in cricket, golf, darts and has now extended its support in to netball. SCAL is proud to support activities that promote wellness and social networking.

The Board and Management of Southern Cross Assurance (SCAL) are pleased to announce the appointment of our new Underwriting Manager, Mr Brandon Govender. Brandon hails from South Africa and has over a decade of experience in underwriting and client servicing with major brokers and insurers across the African market.
Brandon holds insurance certifications from INSETA (South Africa’s Insurance training institute) and has clocked a decade of solid experience with leading firms like AON South Africa and Iemas Insurance Brokers (now trading as iMas Insurance Brokers). Brandon has extensive hands-on experience in managing major risks in commercial ventures, government projects and the resource sector. Prior to joining SCAL he was the Senior Underwriting Consultant and Renewals Specialist at PSG Financial Services where he had direct oversight over 21 branches.
Brandon brings a wealth of overseas technical experience and client servicing standards to SCAL. A key part of his role as Underwriting Manager, will be to oversee and assist with general underwriting functions and to ensure SCAL’s underwriting service is delivered with great professionalism to all our clients and brokers.
SCAL’s CEO, Mr Srirangan, said: ”With this addition, we are evolving into a stronger and more capable team that is ready to offer the highest standard of insurance solutions tailored to PNG’s market needs. I have no doubt he will be a valuable asset to our SCAL family, and I look forward to working closely with him. Once again, welcome aboard Brandon, and wish you all the best.”
Southern Cross Assurance is excited to announce the appointment of Mr. Arua Toua as Chief Technical Officer. Mr. Toua (or A.T as he is affectionately known) is a seasoned Underwriter and risk manager with career spanning over 40 years in the PNG insurance industry and abroad. Prior to joining SCAL, he held senior roles with Transpacific Assurance and Tower Insurance (PNG) where he was responsible for overall performance of the overall underwriting functions which included, but not limited to, risk assessment and setting ratings, Reinsurance (local and abroad), marketing & business development, staff training and development initiatives, regulatory compliance and reviewing policy wordings to ensure compliance with regional and global industry standards.
As Chief Technical Officer of SCAL, Mr Toua will provide experienced technical guidance to establish internal systems and controls to drive discipline in SCAL’s underwriting, risk management and claims processes to ensure transparency and integrity and high standards of customer service.
SCAL’s CEO, Mr Srirangan said,” We are privileged to have ‘AT’ on board. He does not need any introduction. Since joining, he has already made some significant contributions, including a willingness to train and mentor the next generation of leaders here at SCAL. I believe he will contribute significantly towards SCAL’s growth over the next few years. We are honored and privileged to have someone of AT’s calibre on board with SCAL. It is my pleasure to officially welcome him to the SCAL family and I wish him all the best in his role.”

SCAL End Of Year Celebration
Team SCAL celebrated their end of the year party at the Loloata Island Resort.
As part of the day’s program, the Board and Executive Management took this opportunity to recognize and celebrate our exceptional performers from 2025, along with our dedicated long-serving team members.
Congratulations to Cyril Kapty of our Systems and Controls Department, for taking the CEO’s Employee of the Year Award and Congratulations to Julius Aila and Saba Ako, for clocking in 10 years of service to SCAL. ‘Recognition’ is one of our Star Values here at SCAL. We value and recognise the exceptional results that our team delivered and their efforts have not gone unnoticed. Congratulations to the staff members as well that received awards from the Executive Management.

On Saturday, 29th November, a group of male staff members lead by our Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer joined Paradise Private Hospital and other participants for their ‘Movember Walk’. An early morning group walk to raise awareness about men’s mental health issues and encourage physical activity like walking, to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
The team gathered as early as 5.30am at the Ela Beach basketball courts, the starting point. They then walked towards Ela Beach service station, took on the steep climb up lawes Road and down the other side toward Sir Hubert Murray Stadium, and then past the Naval base, and continued around Paga Hill ring road and back to the Ela Beach basketball courts to finish. The distance covered was about 7km in total.
The activity was a success in that our participants found it a meaningful one. Although they found the distance a bit challenging, the entire team powered through and successfully completed the route.
At SCAL, our success is not just about numbers or targets; it’s about the people we are helping, the lives we are touching and the futures we are building. When we look out for one another, support each other to overcome any challenges to our wellbeing and growth, and strive for excellence in everything we do, we can all go on to achieve great things and make a lasting contribution towards PNG’s growth and development.
We thank Paradise Private Hospital for organising the activity and allowing SCAL to show its support to raise more awareness on men’s mental health and wellbeing.
